ECHINACEA

'Big Sky'™ Series: "Coneflower". These fragrant beauties are a major breakthrough in Echinacea breeding. The basal- branching habit results in stocky, sturdy plants with many flower stems. Blossoms are large, with wide petals & unusual colors. Blooms July-September. Height 24-30". Zone 5.

purpurea 'Bravado': "Coneflower". Perennial. Coarse, stiff plant, forming large clumps of erect stems 4-5' tall. Leaves oblong, 3-8" long. A rosy red flower with horizontal petals. Long lasting cut flower. Blooms over a long period in summer. Plant in full sun; give average soil & watering. Divide clumps in spring or fall. All zones.

purpurea 'Magnus': "Coneflower". Perennial. Coarse, stiff plant, forming large clumps of erect stems. Plant in full sun; give average soil & watering. Divide clumps in spring or fall. Crowned with deep rose red, 4-5" flowers, this 30-40" Echinacea is useful for background plantings or cuttings.

purpurea 'Pow Wow' Series: "Coneflower". Very well-matched for habit & timing, this colorful, drought-tolerant series puts more flowers on every plant than any other seed Echinacea. Faster to flower & genetically shorter than any other on the market. Requires full sun & well-drained fertile soil. Height 22-24". Blooms May-August. Zones 4-9.

ELAEOCARPUS

decipiens: "Japanese Blueberry Tree" - Shogun® Series. Excellent street, lawn, or park tree; bronzy new growth then glossy green foliage. Ornamental effect from older leaves turning bright red before dropping. Numerous tiny scented white flowers; blue-black olive-like fruit in winter that won't stain sidewalks when crushed. Evergreen. EPILOBIUM

canum: "California Fuchsia, Hummingbird's Trumpet". Perennial herb. Slightly hairy, gray-green foliage. Height up to 3'. It has bright red, tubular flowers with a slight bulge at the base. ERIGERON

karvinskianus: (Often called Vittadinia). "Mexican Daisy or Santa Barbara Daisy". Perennials. Graceful trailing plant 10-20" tall. Leaves 1" long, often toothed at tips. Dainty flower heads ¾" across with numerous white or pinkish rays. Blooms early summer into fall. Sun or light shade. Sandy soil; moderate watering. Drought tolerant. Use as a groundcover in garden beds or large containers. Stands root competition well; invasive unless controlled. A U. C. Davis Arboretum All-Star Selection.

 

ERYSIMUM

'Apricot Twist': "Wallflower". This perennial's dark green-silver foliage has a loose, upright habit. Atop slender leaves & thin stems, clusters of bright apricot flowers emit a spicy fragrance. Prefers well-drained soil. Full sun - partial shade. Height to 24"; spread to 32". Zone 6-8.

'Bowles Mauve': "Wallflower". Wallflowers are among the first to bloom in spring. Clusters of mauve pink blossoms provide continuous bloom all summer. Nicely fragrant & good for cut flowers. Shrub-like, evergreen plants. Height to 24". Zone 6.

'Fragrant Star': "Wallflower". Long-flowering, sweetly scented, sterile, yellow flowers from early spring to summer. Flowering may continue to October. EUGENIA

myrtifolia 'Monterey Bay': "Monterey Bay Brush Cherry". Bold, lush appearance form a full-branching, excellent, tall, evergreen screen or hedge. New growth remains bronze-red over a long season. Creamy white brush-like flowers followed by rose purple fruit. Full sun-partial shade. Moderate grower to 15-20' tall, 8-10' wide. Zones 9-11.

 

EUONYMUS

fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety' P.P. #1960: "Emerald Gaiety Euonymus". Deep green leaves edged in sparkling white are tinged pink in winter. Evergreen shrub with a dense erect habit, excellent for small hedges & foundation plantings. Full sun. Moderate grower to 4-5' tall, 3' wide; a climber if supported. Zones 5-9.

fortunei 'Emerald 'n' Gold' P.P. #2231: "Emerald 'n' Gold Euonymus". A colorful evergreen shrub, providing bright green foliage with a gold edge all year long. Its dense mounding habit makes it an excellent small hedge or border plant. Full sun. Moderate grower to 4-5' tall, 3' wide; a climber if supported. Zones 5-9.

japonica 'Green Spire': "Green Spire Euonymus". Well-behaved plant for dense, narrow hedges or screens. Makes a great clipped hedge requiring minimal care for a formal appearance. japonica 'Microphylla': "Boxleaf Euonymus". Needing minimal trimming, this compact shrub is perfect for a low hedge or border. It has a beautiful, formal appearance. Grows well in heat & poor soils. Evergreen. Full sun. Slow grower to 1-2' tall, 1' wide or smaller. Zones 6-9.

EUPHORBIA

amygdaloides hybrid 'Efanthia Improved': Brilliant chartreuse flower spikes appear in spring atop smooth, evergreen foliage that takes on a burgundy tint as the weather cools. This new improved variety boasts a bushy, compact habit and non-drooping, non-curling leaves. Height 10-14". Full sun - partial shade. Zones 4-11.

amygdaloides hybrid 'Helena's Blush': A spectacularly variegated form of our popular 'Efanthia', the green & white dappled foliage & eye-popping chartreuse striped flowers add color interest to the landscape & containers. Full sun - partial shade. Height 10-14". Zones 4-11.

characias 'Glacier Blue': "Spurge". Evergreen, cream-edged, blue gray foliage. Cream flowers and bracts with blue gray striping rise above height given : up to 18". Blooms February - May. 'Ruby Glow' USPPAF: 'Ruby Glow' has a great habit, is very branched & compact, & presents well in a pot. Its foliage is mahogany in lower light levels & is virtually black in full sun. New foliage is an attractive red. Typically, the flowers have dark red bracts greater than ½". Use in the perennial border & as a container item. USDA Zones 6-11.

'Shorty': Graceful blue green foliage. Red growing tips & bright yellow flowers in winter. Compact, strong, & mounding. Blooms March - May. Full sun to partial shade. Height 15-18"; spread to 15". Zone 7.

x. 'Blackbird': 'Blackbird' has a compact, bushy habit with exceptionally dark purple foliage that gets darker in full sun. In the spring, green yellow flowers contrast nicely with the virtually black foliage. This plant proved itself to be very temperature-tolerant as it survived the scorching 116° heat wave in the Central Valley of California. A great year-round addition for foliar plant choice in the perennial border. Good in containers too. Mature height is about 20" to 2' tall.

x. martinii 'Ascot Rainbow' P.P. #21,501: 'Ascot Rainbow' has been selected for its distinct & unique variegated flowers & foliage. FATSIA

japonica: (Aralia sieboldii). "Japanese Aralia". Large, fan-shaped leaves add a bold tropical look to the landscape. Great in shaded entryways or patio; perfect for containers or as a houseplant. White flower clusters are followed by black berries. Evergreen. Partial sun. Moderate grower to 5-8' tall, equal width. Zones 8-11.

 

FEIJOA

sellowiana: "Pineapple Guava". Multiple upright branches form dense structure. Gray-green leaves are felty white underneath. In summer, waxy flower, its petals dark red inside, white outside with showy red stamens; tasty guava-like fruit follows. Evergreen. Full sun. Moderate grower to 10-15' tall & wide. Zones 8-10.

 

FERNS

Adiantum capillus-veneris: "Southern Maidenhair Fern". Native to North America. Height to 1½' tall. Fronds twice divided, but not forked. Plants need shade, steady moisture, & soil rich in organic matter. Leaves die back in hard frost. Zones 5-9, 14-24.

Adiantum pedatum: "Five Finger Maidenhair Fern". Native to North America. Fronds fork to make finger-like pattern atop slender 1-2½' stems. General effect airy & fresh; excellent in containers or shaded beds. Plants need shade, steady moisture, & soil rich in organic matter. Leaves die back in hard frost. Zones 1-9, 14-21.

Adiantum x. mairisii: "Mairis's Hardy Maidenhair Fern'. Deciduous. Wonderful hybrid vigor for faster growth & hardier than the Southern Maidenhair Fern. Height 12-18". Part to full shade. Spreading habit. Zones 8-10.

Arachniodes standishii: "Upside-down Fern". Deciduous. Spreading habit. Prominent veins on the top of the frond give the impression you are looking at the bottom. Tall, evergreen, & lighter green than many ferns; this makes a specimen for background or naturalizing in a woodland setting. Height 12-36". Zones 6-9.

Asparagus 'Meyeri': "Meyers Asparagus Fern". Several to many stiffly upright stems to 2' or more, densely clothed with needle-like deep green leaves that give the plant a fluffy look. Forms a 3-4' wide clump. Performs well in containers. A little less hardy than A.d. 'Sprengeri'.

Asparagus densiflorus 'Sprengeri': "Sprengeri Asparagus Fern". Arching or drooping stems 3-6' long. Shiny, bright green, needlelike leaves, 1" long, in bundles. Bright red berries. Popular for hanging baskets or containers, indoors & out. Train on trellis; climbs by means of small hooked prickles. Used as billowy groundcover where temperatures stay above 24°F / -4°C. Grows in ordinary or even poor soil. Will tolerate dryness indoors. Sun - partial shade.

Asparagus densiflorus 'Sprengeri Compacta': "Compact Sprengeri Asparagus Fern". Arching or drooping stems. Shiny, bright green, needle-like leaves, in bundles. Bright red berries. Popular in hanging baskets or containers, indoors & out. Similar to A.d. 'Sprengeri' but with denser, shorter stems.

Asplenium bulbiferum: "Mother Fern". Outdoors in zones 14 (protected), 15-17, 20-24; house plant elsewhere. From New Zealand. Graceful, very finely cut, light green fronds to 4' tall. Fronds produce plantlets that can be removed & planted. Heavy or medium shade. Hardy to 26°F. Watch for snails & slugs.

Asplenium bulbiferum x oblangatum 'Floralee': "Hardy Mother Fern". Graceful, arching fronds to 2-4'. Hardier than regular Mother Fern. Partial to full shade. Evergreen. Enjoys fairly rich, well-drained soil. Slow to moderate grower.

Cyrtomium falcatum: "Japanese Holly Fern". Fronds to 10" wide, with 3-11 pairs of divisions. Coarse-textured but handsome ferns with firm-textured, glossy fronds. Takes houseplant conditions well. Part-full shade. Height 2-3'. Zones 7-10. A U. C. Davis Arboretum All-Star Selection.

Dryopteris erythrosora: "Autumn Fern". One of the few ferns with seasonal color value. Fronds are reddish when young, deep green in late spring, summer. Deeply cut fronds. Spreads by under-ground stems. 1½-2' tall. Shade. All zones.

Nephrolepis cordifolia: "Southern Sword Fern". Native to many tropical regions of the world. To 2 -3' tall, 5' wide. Tufts of bright green, narrow (2" wide), upright fronds closely spaced, finely toothed leaflets. Roots often have small, roundish tubers. Plant spreads by thin, fuzzy runners & can be invasive. Will not take hard frosts, but is otherwise adaptable, tolerating poor soil & erratic watering. Good in narrow, shaded beds; can thrive in full sun with adequate water. Effective groundcover; also good in pots & hanging baskets. Often sold as N. exaltata.

Polystichum munitum: "Western Sword Fern". Native from California to Alaska & Montana. Most seen fern of the redwood forests. Leathery, shiny dark green fronds are 2-4' long, depending on soil & available moisture. Fronds have medium coarse texture, are long lasting when cut. Old plants may have 75-100 fronds. Good for shady beds, along house walls, as large-scale ground cover, in mixed woodland plantings. Grows best in rich soil with organic matter. Established plants need little water.

Polystichum polyblepharum: (P. setosum). "Japanese Lace Fern, Tassel Fern". Lustrous shiny leaf fern adds an elegant look to shaded gardens. Dark green fronds are evenly colored with a frosted reverse along a rusty brown stem. Particularly beautiful when fronds unfurl. A reliable fine textured fern for smaller settings to fill out scant plantings. Plant masses for groundcover, particularly beautiful under flowering shrubs. Well sized for containers. Herbaceous. Shade-partial shade. Slow growing to 2' tall & wide. Hardy. Zones 6-8.

Polystichum x. dycei: "Dyce's Hybrid Holly Fern". This sterile hybrid is one of the largest Holly Ferns in the garden. It is dark green & glossy with a center crown to give it a symmetrical appearance. Semi-evergreen. Height to 48". Zones 6-8.

Rumohra adiantiformis: "Leatherleaf Fern". Deep green, leathery textured fronds arise in dense clusters are perfect in informal gardens or as a filler for shady beds. Cut foliage adds attractive texture to floral arrangements. Effective evergreen spreading groundcover. Great in hanging baskets. Partial shade. To 3' tall & wide. Non-hardy. Zones 9-11.

Sphaeropteris cooperi 'Brentwood': "Australian Tree Fern". 'Brentwood' is a more massive & faster growing cultivar that can become quite large. It is normally grown in #1, #5, or #15 containers for the landscape trade. In areas where hard freezes occur, it can be treated as an annual for a special effect in the garden. Do not let this fern dry out.

Woodwardia fimbriata: "Giant Chain Fern, European Chain Fern". Among the largest native Western ferns, this plant can reach up to 9' tall in wet coastal forests, but it is more typically seen in gardens at 4-5' tall, 3' wide. Spreads by woody rhizomes. Thick, leathery, medium green fronds are erect but spreading toward the top, twice cut but still somewhat coarse. Use near pool or brook, against a shaded wall, or in a woodland garden. Sometimes seen in desert areas where some shade & seepage exist. Slow to get going if dug from existing clumps; nursery plants are vigorous, fast growing. With-stands neglect once well established. Can take full sun in wet spots. Often sold as W. chamissoi or W. radicans. A U. C. Davis Arboretum All-Star Selection.

 

FICUS

repens: (Ficus pumila). "Creeping Fig". An evergreen vine with juvenile, small, leathery, dark green leaves that mature to larger, dark, thick leaves. Shearing of mature foliage will encourage new juvenile growth. Vigorous growing, clinging, dense branches will adhere to any surface. A handsome choice for climbing walls, poles, arbors, & fences. Full sun-partial shade. Fast growing to 25-30' long. Zones 9-11.

 

FRAXINUS

americana 'Autumn Purple': "Autumn Purple White Ash". 'Autumn Purple' is noted for its outstanding reddish to deep purple fall color. It is a seedless variety with heavily textured green summer foliage & rounded crown. Leaves are 8-15" long with 5-9 oval leaflets. To 45' high, 40' spread. Deciduous. Full sun. Zone 4.

oxycarpa 'Raywoodi': "Claret Ash, Raywood Ash". Deciduous. Fast growing, medium-size, dark green leaves which turn wine red in fall. Blight resistant. Excellent street & park tree. A compact, round headed tree 25-35' tall, 25' wide. No seeds. Moderate water. Full sun. Zone 6.

 

FRUIT TREES

ROOTSTOCKS

Citation: (Pat.#5112) Dwarf peaches & nectarines to 8-14', apricots & plums to 12-18'. Very tolerant of wet soils, not drought tolerant (induces early dormancy in dry soil). Very winter hardy. Resists root-knot nematodes. Induces heavy bearing at a young age. May be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

Colt: In heavy soils, standard cherry varieties are dwarfed to about ¾ of standard, or about 22-30' if not pruned. Lesser dwarfing effect in other soils. Relatively tolerant of wet soil, apparently resistant to bacterial canker. Trees begin bearing at a young age. Trees may be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

Lovell: For nectarines, peaches, apricots, plums, & almonds. Vigorous, more tolerant of wet soils than Nemaguard, also more cold hardy. Susceptible to nematodes in sandy soils. Unpruned tree height of standard varieties is 15-25', but may be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

M-111: An excellent all-around rootstock for apples. Tolerates wet or dry soil. Resists woolly apple aphids & collar rot. Induces bearing at a young age. Unpruned tree height 80-90% of standard or about 15-25'. May be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

M-7: For apples. Unpruned tree height 2/3 of standard, or about 12-20'. Induces early & heavy bearing, resists fireblight & powdery mildew. Moderately resistant to collar rot. Good anchorage. Very winter hardy, widely adapted. May be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

Mazzard: Cherries on Mazzard are vigorous & more tolerant of wet soils than Mahaleb (but good drainage is still essential). Resistant to root-knot nematodes & oat root fungus. Unpruned tree height of standard varieties is 30-40', but may be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

Nemaguard: For nectarines, peaches, apricots, plums, & almonds. Vigorous, resistant to root-knot nematode, an excellent rootstock for well-drained soils. In slower draining soils, plant on a mound or berm. Unpruned tree height of standard varieties is 15-25', but may be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

OHxF 333: European & Asian pears on OHxF333 are dwarfed to about 2/3 the size of standard or about 12-18' if unpruned. Widely adapted, disease resistant. Trees may be held to any desired height with summer pruning.

 

APPLE

'Fuji' on M-7: New apple from Japan, already a favorite in Central California. Sweet, crisp, very flavorful. Dull reddish-orange skin, sometimes russetted. Ripe mid-September. Good pollenizer for other apple varieties. Fairly low chilling requirement. Self-fruitful.

'Gala' on M-111: Wonderful dessert apple from New Zealand. Crisp, nice blend of sweetness & tartness, rich flavor. Skin reddish-orange over yellow. Early harvest, 2-3 weeks before 'Red Delicious'. Good pollenizer for other varieties. Adapted to cold & warm-winter climates. Chilling requirement apparently less than 500 hours. Self-fruitful. USDA zones 4-10.

'Granny Smith' on M-111: From New Zealand. Large, late, green, all-purpose apple. Crisp, tart, excellent keeper. Requires long summer. Thrives in hot climates. 400 hours. Prolonged bloom; good pollenizer for other apples. Self-fruitful. USDA zones 6-9.

'Gravenstein' on M-111: Famous for sauce & baking, also used fresh. Crisp, juicy, flavorful, tart apple. Early bloom, early harvest. 700 hours. Pollen-sterile, pollenizer required: Empire, Fuji, Gala, Red Delicious. USDA zones 2-9.

'Pink Lady' on M-111P.P.#7880: Very crisp, sweet-tart, distinct flavor, good keeper. Skin reddish pink over green when ripe. White flesh resists browning. Harvest begins late October about 3 weeks after 'Fuji'. Self-fruitful. Chilling requirement of 300-400 hours. USDA Zones 6-8.

'Red Fuji' on M-111: Redder-skinned bud sport of 'Fuji'. Sweet, very crisp, & flavorful. An excellent keeper. Ripens in September-October. Excellent pollenizer for other apple varieties. Self-fruitful. USDA zones 5-9.

APRICOT

'Blenheim' on Citation - (Royal): All purpose freestone, sweet, aromatic, flavorful. Long-time No.1 apricot in California. Early bloom. Late June harvest in Central California. 500 hours. Self-fruitful.

HEMEROCALLIS

'Bell Orange': "Daylily". A great, clear, bright pumpkin orange with rich, dark green foliage that tries to keep blooming almost 9 months of the year. A triploid hybrid with broad petaled flowers about 4" across. Foliage height 18-20" with flowers to 30".

'Benchmark': "Daylily". Big, 6", lavender blooms have a creamy lavender halo around a yellow & green throat. Wide petals with ruffled edges. Fragrant. Blooms June-July. Full sun. Height to 30". Zones 3-9.

'Cardinal Spokes': "Daylily". This light raspberry-red is the color of the bird by the same name. A real favorite because it is the earliest flowering red, as well as the most prolifically flowering one that we know. The petals are slender, & numerous in a spider-like form. Habit is medium-tall, with foliage reaching 24-26" & flower stems to a foot or more above that.

'Dimples': "Daylily". A soft, warm pink with a touch of coral. Masses of 3" flowers on light, lime green foliage. This almost semi-dwarf has foliage to 20" with flower stems to about 28". Very floriferous with heavy blooms both spring & fall.

'Gentle Shepherd': "Daylily". Big, 5", nearly white flowers with a yellow green throat. Blooms early-midseason. Semi-evergreen. Height to 29".

'Happy Returns': "Daylily". This pale yellow flowered daylily distinguishes itself with its profuse bloom & compact size (only 16" tall), making it good for containers & borders. It is an early season bloomer. It attracts butterflies. It is deer & drought tolerant. Fragrant, showy flowers. Height 1-3'. Full sun - part shade.

'Hot Lips': "Daylily". This is the clearest, broad-petaled, large flowered, glossy red this side of Marilyn Monroe! A bustin' out triploid of unequaled proportions. The leaves are huge & wide, & the flower stems look like small tree trunks. Blooms almost all year, especially on the coast. Overall height about 16-18", with flower stems just above the foliage at about 20".

'Jerome': "Daylily". Big, 6¾", orange flowers with a deeper eyezone & a green throat. Blooms early-midseason. Extended bloom habit. Evergreen. Height to 22".

'Joan Senior': "Daylily". Very showy, nearly pure white flowers with a yellow throat are held on stiff stems well above the plant. Prolific bloomer begins midseason, continuing for many weeks. Evergreen in warmer climates. Full sun. Fast growing to 26" tall, 24-30" wide. Zones 4-11.

'Lavender Dew': "Daylily". Big, 5½" lavender blend flowers with a green throat. Blooms midseason with an extended bloom habit. Evergreen. Height to 23".

'Lemon Dip': "Daylily". A wonderful semi-dwarf variety with broad, creamy lemon yellow flowers. If you are looking for a pastel yellow, this is a good choice! Compact foliage is a uniform 16-18" with flower stems 24-30". One of the earlier bloomers of the lemon yellows, you will often see buds & flowers in March - April, with a heavy re-bloom in the fall.

'Lemon Spokes': "Daylily". The brightest true lemon yellow of any of the daylilies that we know. The petals are slender, forming a broad star & bloom heavily both in the spring & the fall. Foliage reaches about 18-20" with flower stems reaching almost 3'. Fragrant! Another early bloomer!

'Lightning Berry': "Daylily". This berry-toned beauty is unique in that it has a bold white, center stripe right down the middle of each flower petal. Flower size is 4-5" across on dark, rich green foliage with broad leaves growing to 18-22" with flower stems to 18-24". Starts blooming about May, continuing all through summer with an extended blooming season in the fall.

'Lil Lemon': "Daylily". This semi-dwarf is a soft lemon yellow with a foliage height of 20". Flower stems are only 20-24" bursting with mini blossoms 2-3" across. Very floriferous with the heaviest show in the spring, repeating in the fall.

'Little Business': "Daylily". This miniature daylily is admired for its many raspberry red flowers on tall stems above large clumps of grass like foliage. A carefree perennial that will work in almost any garden, even small ones. Fast growing foliage to 16" tall with flower stalks 15-18" tall. Deer resistant. Good for firescaping. Full sun. Zones 4-11

'Little Grapette': "Daylily". Large clumps of grass-like leaves are highlighted by lavender purple flowers on tall stems. This smaller growing selection reblooms throughout the summer months. Full sun. Fast growing to 16" tall with flower stems at 15-18" tall. Zones 4-11.

'Ming Toy': "Daylily". Medium orange red flowers with a vivid golden throat. Blooms in late spring, repeating until fall. Herbaceous perennial. Full sun. Fast growing to about 20" tall & as wide. Zone 5-11.

'Morning Cheerfulness': "Daylily". Pink petals with white mid-ribs in front & pale pink petals in back & a green throat. Blooms early-mid season and reblooms. Evergreen. Height to 22" tall. Full sun.

'Pardon Me': "Daylily". A vigorous cultivar which features 3" diameter, bright red flowers with yellow-green throats. Flowers are fragrant & are on 24" stems. Blooms in late mid-season with a possible repeat bloom in fall. Full sun-partial shade. Attracts butterflies. 1-1½' tall.

'Petal Pusher': "Daylily". Everyone loves pinwheels! Well, here is a daylily that looks like a pinwheel. Alternating red petals with yellow petals make this one fun & interesting in the landscape. Not only is it visually unique, but it's also a strong plant of medium range that grows to 24" with flower stems to 3'. A favorite of many!

'Pink Chiffon': "Daylily". Another in the pink series, with a touch of peach. Large, 4-5" flowers. Even though the color is soft & delicate, the plant is a strong triploid hybrid with dark green leaves to about 20" & flower stems rising to 24".

'Prairie Bella': "Daylily". Deep pink flowers in early mid-season. Up to 20" tall. Full sun.

'Premium Lemon Yellow': "Daylily". Another beautiful lemon yellow flower, with broad petals (3 1/2- 4 1/2") across. Perhaps the real feature of this one however, is the beautiful deep green leaves forming luxurious clumps of 20-24" foliage. Flower stems reach 30-36" heights. Late spring bloomer, following with a good re-bloom late in the fall.

'Primo': "Daylily". Bright red flowers of broad, triangular petals, with a light center stripe on each petal. Flower size 6". Foliage is a deep green, medium range to 24" with flower stems to 3'. Massive flower surges in spring & fall practically cover foliage.

'Purple De Oro': "Daylily". 'Purple De Oro' has a 3", medium dark purple flower with a lighter midrib & edge above a gold throat. This is a re-blooming variety. Height to 20". Full sun-partial shade.

'Quinn Buck': "Daylily". Large, 7", lavender flowers with a green throat. Blooms midseason. Goes dormant. Height to 26".

'Red Apple': "Daylily". A beautiful, true raspberry red daylily with rich, fruit color is a favorite! The leaves on this variety are dark green & distinctive because they are held quite upright, (unique for daylilies), making this one a great foliage accent in the garden as well. Medium to tall range with foliage a good 24"& flower stems up to 34".

'Stella de Oro': "Daylily". 2' tall, produces bright yellow flowers throughout warm weather. Flowers single, semi-double - double; vary in shape from broad petaled to narrow & twisted.

'Strawberry Candy':"Daylily". A favorite perennial for its showy coral pink flowers with a strawberry red eye. Attracts butterflies & hummingbirds. Foliage to 18" tall with flower stalks to 26" tall. Full sun. Reblooms throughout the summer.

'Sun Spokes': "Daylily". A tall, very robust daylily, growing to 2½ - 3', producing large flowers of spider-shaped petals. Blooms spring through fall. This top-rate variety, with bold, clear color puts on a great show in the garden/landscape. Foliage grows to approximately 2' with flower stems to 3'.

'Sun Twist': "Daylily". Pound for pound, we think that this semi-dwarf variety has more showy flower power than any other daylily we grow! Practically never stops blooming making this little beauty one of our most popular daylilies. It gets right down to business very early in the spring, continues into summer, & takes a brief rest in about August only to start all over again in the fall & lasting well into winter. The individual flowers are a good size, & each broad petal is curved back with a twist, hence the name Sun Twist. Overall size stays at about 16-18". A wonderful non-deciduous substitute for 'Stella de Oro'.

'Touched By Midas': "Daylily". 6", bright gold, self, triploid flower. Blooms early-mid season. Evergreen. Height to 30".

'Velvet Red': "Daylily". A deep, dark red, velvety in texture, with a very wide (6½ - 7") flower on long stems. Very free flowering & showy; almost pansy like because of the yellow face in the center, contrasting with the dark red color. Medium to tall in size, with the foliage to 26" & flower stems to 3'. Starts blooming in mid-May through July with a re-bloom in the fall.

 

HESPERALOE

parviflora: "Coral Yucca, Red Yucca". An evergreen perennial shrub. It's attractive spiky-looking leaves add a strong architectural note to the garden. It blooms tall spikes of deep rose-pink flowers all summer, but will continue to rebloom almost year-round. Attracts hummingbirds. Very heat & drought tolerant. americana 'Velvet Night': "Velvet Night Coral Bells". Part sun. This darkest of the dark coral bells glistens in the garden or in the pots. Deep bluish purple leaves. Mounding 1-2' high & wide. Zones 5-10.

'Blackout': P.P. #20,613. "Coral Bells". Tight, compact mound of nearly jet black, very glossy leaves with rounded lobes. Cream, bell-shaped flowers accent the dark foliage color. Blooms June-July. 'Caramel': P.P. #16,560. "Coral Bells". A vigorous grower with fuzzy, bright yellow-orange leaves with reddish purple undersides. It is brighter than Heuchera 'Amber Waves'. HYDRANGEA

arborescens 'PIIHA-I' (PPAF): "Endless Summer®Bella Anna™ Hydrangea". Bella Anna™ Hydrangea is a color breakthrough for Hydrangea arborescens. Bella Anna™ Hydrangea has dark green foliage & rich magenta pink mophead flowers on strong, upright stems. Blooms summer thru fall. It has the ability to bloom on new wood. Partial shade. The result is a plant that provides beautiful flowers all summer long. It is unusually hardy compared to other Hydrangea macrophylla, even in zone 4 climate. The flowers grow up to 8" in diameter, with pink blooms in alkaline soils & blue blooms in acidic soil. Since Endless Summer® blooms on new wood, removal of spent flowers will encourage re-bloom.
